Drone survey gives Ports of Indiana a high-accuracy business upgrade

SPACECO, a Chicago-based civil engineering and surveying firm, needed a faster, higher-accuracy way to survey large, complex industrial sites for the Ports of Indiana. The challenge included rough and inaccessible terrain, security restrictions, and the need to deliver regular site updates more efficiently than traditional ground-based or airplane surveys. SPACECO used WingtraOne for aerial mapping and cadastral survey work.

Using WingtraOne with the Sony RX1R II PPK payload, SPACECO surveyed three ports totaling 3,000 acres in just three days and delivered the final outputs within a week. Wingtra’s drone data achieved 0.6 in (1.5 cm) absolute horizontal accuracy without ground control points, while also reducing field time and cost versus multirotor, terrestrial, or airplane-based methods. The high-resolution maps helped the client monitor maintenance, enforce tenant land use, and market parcels more effectively, creating new revenue opportunities for SPACECO and the Ports of Indiana.
