Bavaria looks to drones to improve their agriculture audits

The Department of Food Agriculture and Forestry in Bavaria needed a more accurate way to audit agricultural land for subsidy payments. When satellite imagery wasn’t sufficient, officials had to verify usage limits on foot with GPS devices, which was slow and could lead to farmers losing subsidies over small area discrepancies. Wingtra provided the WingtraOne drone to improve land surveying accuracy.

Using two WingtraOne drones, Wingtra helped the department run a two-year pilot project across northern and southern Bavaria, including alpine regions. The drones delivered centimeter-level accuracy and enabled the team to collect up to 300 hectares of data per day, improving audit precision and efficiency. Wingtra says that if the project continues to succeed, the department plans to expand drone use across all of Bavaria.
