A Windstream Enterprise Case Study

Southern Company - Customer Case Study

Southern Company, a leading U.S. utility operating a private LTE voice and data network across its Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi affiliates, needed fully managed, reliable layer‑2 point‑to‑point connectivity with end‑to‑end SLAs — including last‑mile management, carrier diversity and rural reach — so it could build and operate its own MPLS overlay. Southern selected Windstream Enterprise and its Switched Ethernet (Ethernet VPL) service to meet these stringent technical and security requirements.

Windstream Enterprise delivered Switched Ethernet virtual private line connections to hubs and towers, provided last‑mile access and end‑to‑end SLAs (including managing third‑party providers), and used its ILEC footprint to achieve rural carrier diversity. As a result, Southern Company achieved last‑mile network diversity, satisfied its SLA and security needs while retaining control of its MPLS network, and established an ongoing, proactive partnership with Windstream Enterprise for regular performance reviews and storm‑readiness planning.
