Case Study: Mass Transit Authority achieves increased reliability and improved customer experience with Windstream Enterprise SD‑WAN and managed services

A Windstream Enterprise Case Study

Preview of the Mass Transit Authority Case Study

How SD-WAN helps them keep up the pace

Mass Transit Authority (MTA) of Flint, Michigan—a public transportation provider operating across 9 locations with 650 employees—was running on a legacy network that caused frequent outages, insufficient bandwidth, no VPN for remote work, an end-of-life PBX, costly POTS lines and legacy fax service, all of which harmed employee productivity and customer experience. To modernize their infrastructure, MTA turned to Windstream Enterprise for SD‑WAN, Managed Network Security (MNS), OfficeSuite UC®, LAN Services (cloud‑managed switches), Secure eFax, cellular broadband, high‑bandwidth Ethernet and the WE Connect portal.

Windstream Enterprise deployed SD‑WAN in an active‑active configuration (primary Ethernet with secondary cable broadband) at all 9 sites, implemented MNS with VPN via WE Connect, replaced fax with Secure eFax and is rolling out OfficeSuite UC over cloud‑managed switches. The result: outages are now rare and isolated, application performance and employee productivity improved, trouble tickets declined, VPN remote access was available ahead of the pandemic, and MTA expects to eliminate about 90% of POTS lines for significant cost savings—delivering greater reliability and an enhanced customer experience.
