How Appalachian Regional Healthcare nursed their network back to health

Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH), a not-for-profit health system serving more than 100 hospitals, clinics and ancillary sites across rural Kentucky and West Virginia, needed a redundant, high‑bandwidth network with zero downtime and better visibility to support a new EMR rollout. ARH engaged Windstream Enterprise to address insufficient bandwidth, single-threaded connections and a lack of proactive monitoring using solutions including High Availability SD‑WAN Concierge™, Wavelength Services, High Bandwidth Ethernet Fiber, cable broadband, the WE Connect portal and Elite NOC support.

Windstream Enterprise implemented Wavelength Services between 13 primary hospitals, deployed High Availability SD‑WAN Concierge™ at 37 additional sites with diverse active/active Ethernet and cable access, built out fiber to underserved locations, and brought the network under 24/7 Elite NOC management and WE Connect monitoring. The result was greater network diversity, higher bandwidth and reliability, a significant reduction in outages through automatic failover, faster EMR access for clinicians and more time for ARH’s IT team to focus on strategic initiatives.
