A Wind River Case Study
NASA IV&V faced the challenge of performing testing and verification for spacecraft missions without relying on costly and impractical hardware-based systems. Their objective was to develop a high-fidelity, software-only simulator to run unmodified flight software, execute scripts, and inject errors.
Using Wind River Simics, NASA IV&V created a complete virtual platform that simulated hardware, allowing target software to run as it would on physical systems. This solution from Wind River enabled the team to find bugs early and verify software behavior with confidence. The results included significant long-term cost savings, as 80–90% of the simulation models developed were reusable for subsequent missions.
