BAE Systems meets RAF deadline with Wind River for Tornado GR4 TARDIS

The customer, BAE Systems, faced the challenge of rapidly developing an error-free navigation system for the Royal Air Force's Tornado GR4 jets. This system, TARDIS, needed to reliably integrate multiple sophisticated software applications to process radar and map data for real-time, full-color displays. To meet this stringent requirement for safety and security, BAE partnered with vendor Wind River.

Wind River implemented a solution using its VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS), development tools platform, and Professional Services. This allowed BAE's engineers to successfully meet their deadline with a state-of-the-art system. The results included advanced liquid-crystal displays and integrated data processing, which provided optimal situational awareness for low-level terrain navigation and avoidance capabilities for the aircraft's crew.
