Airbus certifies A3R for DAL-A multi-core operations with Wind River

Airbus faced the challenge of certifying its airborne military equipment for automatic air-to-air refueling to the highest assurance level, DAL-A, which included meeting CAST-32A requirements for an embedded multi-core processor. To achieve this, Airbus utilized Wind River and its VxWorks 653 platform for the aircraft's air-to-air refueling boom system.

With the support and trusted advisory of Wind River, Airbus successfully navigated the multi-core certification process. The solution resulted in the world's first certification for automatic air-to-air refueling boom operations, enabling more efficient missions, reduced operator workload, and an optimized fuel transfer rate for the Airbus A330 MRTT aircraft.
