To support this research, the team used WhoisXML API’s WHOIS History API to obtain accurate historical WHOIS data for domain registration and expiration dates.

WhoisXML API provided an easy-to-use historical WHOIS service that So combined with passive DNS data to cross-check domain status and improve his methodology. The result was a more robust approach to identifying apps likely to contact expired domains, and WHOIS History API improved the research methodology’s reliability by about 50%.
