Malware Patrol & WhoisXML API Augmenting Threat Detection with Newly Registered Domain Data

Malware Patrol, a U.S.-based cybersecurity threat intelligence provider, needed a faster way to detect malicious domains as threat actors could weaponize newly registered domains almost immediately for malware, phishing, ransomware, and command-and-control activity. To strengthen early detection, it used WhoisXML API’s Newly Registered Domains product alongside its existing threat intelligence sources.

WhoisXML API’s NRD data was automatically ingested into Malware Patrol’s systems, where it was normalized, added to the company’s historical dataset, and correlated with other intelligence feeds. This improved automated data collection, made integration easy and stable, and helped Malware Patrol deliver more timely, up-to-date domain threat detection for its customers, though the case study does not provide specific numerical results.
