PacBio delivers 1,300 whole genomes per year with Whipsaw

PacBio, a genomics technology company, partnered with industrial design firm Whipsaw to reimagine the user interaction model and industrial design for their Revio gene sequencing system. The challenge was to design a high-throughput instrument that was not only highly efficient but also communicated sophistication and precision to its users in research environments.

Whipsaw delivered a comprehensive solution, creating a stunning new industrial design and an intuitive user interface for the Revio system. The design improvements, which included a simplified workflow, a Bugatti-inspired ventilation grill, and a Gorilla Glass sliding door, maximized sample throughput by enabling back-to-back runs and remote monitoring. The result is a state-of-the-art instrument capable of sequencing up to 1,300 whole human genomes per year for less than $1,000 per genome, allowing researchers to spend less time operating the machine and more time analyzing results.
