Lamar Advertising using WhereScape to Quickly Develop Targeted Business Solutions with Agility

Lamar Advertising, one of North America’s largest outdoor advertising companies, was struggling with an aging Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse that suffered from poor performance, limited scalability, data integrity problems and sparse documentation as data volumes grew (including 25 million raw rows from its Lamar Digital Display system). To address these issues, Lamar engaged WhereScape and used WhereScape RED to reengineer the existing warehouse and build targeted data marts and loading processes.

WhereScape RED automated the ETL, generated stored procedures, provided self-documenting change management, and enabled a two-person team to deliver many solutions quickly. The new architecture cut processing time for Lamar’s Digital Display data from as much as eight hours to 1.5 hours, supports a 4 TB and growing warehouse, and has produced a dozen point solutions (AP portal, performance mart, account executive portals) that improved reporting and analytics and uncovered new business opportunities. WhereScape remains Lamar’s standardized development platform as they roll out visual analytics to their teams.
