Case Study: Kaiser Permanente achieves faster, fully documented Teradata data warehousing and improved analytics with WhereScape RED

A WhereScape Case Study

Preview of the Kaiser Permanente Case Study

Kaiser Permanente - Customer Case Study

Kaiser Permanente (Kaiser Permanente Washington) needed to rebuild and accelerate its Teradata data warehouse after inheriting a legacy, hand-coded ETL environment (including a 60,000-line SAS process) that slowed development, risked single-person knowledge loss, and made compliance, data lineage and governance difficult. To address these challenges they evaluated tools and selected WhereScape, using WhereScape RED for Teradata and the Teradata platform to standardize development and documentation.

WhereScape implemented WhereScape RED as an ELT automation layer and paired it with a Data Vault model to build a fully documented enrollment and membership subject area and numerous follow-on projects. WhereScape’s automation eliminated hand-coding and legacy ETL work, removed manual monthly processing, increased analytic access (user base grew from ~500 to 650), and supported a 6.8 TB environment with 6,500 tables; measurable impact includes a 2% improvement in medication adherence and an award-winning analytics project (Teradata Opti Award).
