Helsana, Switzerland’s largest health insurer, was struggling with a BI environment built on hand coding, manual handoffs and tribal knowledge that made scheduled releases slow and costly. Relying on up to 15 external resources and taking 30–40 person‑days for complex releases, the team needed to modernize tooling and move development in‑house. Helsana evaluated WhereScape’s Data Automation tools, including WhereScape 3D and WhereScape RED, to address these challenges.

WhereScape delivered a proof of concept and implementation (with local partner IT‑Logix) that automated deployment, enabled rapid prototyping and auto‑generated native code and documentation. As a result, Helsana cut core system update effort from 30–40 person‑days to one–two days, now staffs ~90% of projects internally, and estimates savings in the millions; the BI team has adopted Agile practices, reduced tool sprawl, and gained database portability and repeatable version‑controlled workflows thanks to WhereScape.
