Cornell University Uses WhereScape Automation for Data Migration and Data Mart Development

Cornell University, a major research institution in Ithaca, New York, needed to replace IBM Cognos Data Manager after support was discontinued. With a hybrid Oracle environment (on‑prem Oracle 11.2 and AWS Oracle 12 RDS) supporting critical student, constituent and financial data marts—including a student mart with about 300 presentation tables refreshed daily and a potential user base of 20,000—Cornell sought an open, metadata-driven ETL tool and a cost-effective licensing model. They chose WhereScape and adopted WhereScape RED for automated data integration.

WhereScape implemented WhereScape RED to convert core load processes, generate automated PL/SQL, and provide open metadata and auto-generated documentation. As a result, WhereScape RED improved the speed and performance of nightly data mart refreshes so evening processing no longer creeps into business hours, fast-tracked migration to Oracle and management of the hybrid environment, and delivered cost efficiencies via developer-based licensing (a four-person WhereScape RED license).
