Bucknell University Uses Automation to Develop Cloud-Based Data Warehouse

Bucknell University faced a need to re-architect its data warehouse to support new cloud-based, best-of-breed enterprise systems and emerging semi-structured data sources. The university found its legacy Banner/Ellucian “black box” BI and traditional ETL approaches lacked agility, performance and ease of change for a small development team, so it turned to WhereScape and its WhereScape RED data warehouse automation software to accelerate and simplify the migration.

WhereScape implemented WhereScape RED to automate model building, documentation, impact analysis and target-specific code generation for a cloud-based warehouse on AWS RDS (Microsoft SQL Server) alongside MongoDB Atlas for semi-structured data, feeding IBM Cognos and Tableau. The automation and lightweight deployment reduced manual work, improved lineage and validation, and enabled Bucknell to build, validate and begin using the student subject area twice as fast as with traditional ETL—while benefiting from WhereScape’s responsive, expert support.
