Improving the Public Transport Experience at Africa’s First Integrated Transport Authority

The City of Cape Town, through Transport for Cape Town, needed a way to make public transport easier to navigate in a city with multiple transport modes, overlapping public and private operators, and limited centralized journey information. Working with WhereIsMyTransport, the city set out to create a mobile journey-planning app for commuters and tourists.

WhereIsMyTransport provided mobility data to power the app’s journey-planning service, integrating rail, historic bus services, Bus Rapid Transit, and other transport options into one place. The result was a first-in-kind public transport app that improved passenger experience, helped existing riders travel more easily, and created a platform that could attract new ridership by making transport information accessible on mobile phones.
