Case Study: World Bank improves urban mobility and access insights with WhereIsMyTransport

A WhereIsMyTransport Case Study

Preview of the World Bank Case Study

Evaluating Access to the Informal Economy in African Cities

The World Bank needed better visibility into how people move and access economic opportunities in African cities, especially where informal public transport markets are otherwise opaque. To support project evaluations and planning, it worked with WhereIsMyTransport and used mobility data covering complete public transport networks, including informal modes.

WhereIsMyTransport integrated formal and informal transport data to provide reliable mobility insights across cities such as Cape Town, Douala, Harare, Kampala, Lusaka, Maputo, and Zanzibar. The data informed accessibility evaluations for job access in Southern, West, and East Africa, supported investment planning and urban development decisions, and contributed to a World Bank report on access to job opportunities via public transport in 12 African cities.
