Case Study: Smalltown Supersound engages fans through virtual listening parties with Whereby

A Whereby Case Study

Preview of the Smalltown Supersound Case Study

The record label hosting concerts through video

Smalltown Supersound, an Oslo-based record label led by Joakim Haugland, needed to replace live concerts and in-person promotion when the pandemic shut down the live music industry. They adopted Whereby’s video meeting platform for internal collaboration and to experiment with virtual events, using it to host listening parties with artists such as Kelly Lee Owens.

Whereby enabled Smalltown Supersound to run intimate, interactive listening parties where fans could “be invited home” to the artist, ask questions, and experience new releases together, while keeping the label operational from Joakim’s laptop with remote colleagues. The result was renewed fan engagement, deeper artist–fan interaction, and continuity of business—an outcome Joakim calls the best thing to come out of the pandemic for the label and a model they’ll continue to develop with Whereby.
