Indonesian River Restoration Movement - Customer Case Study

The Indonesian River Restoration Movement (IRRM) is a community organization working to clean and restore Indonesia’s polluted rivers, which are affected by garbage, sewage, and industrial waste. To coordinate volunteers spread across the country, IRRM needed a faster, more accessible way to communicate than email and mailing lists.

WhatsApp became an instrumental tool for IRRM, enabling leaders to broadcast videos, photos, and cleanup updates across 62 location-based groups, from major cities to remote provinces like Papua. With WhatsApp, the organization improved nationwide mobilization, created an early warning system for flooding, and helped make river cleanups a more collaborative effort involving volunteers and local officials, contributing to cleaner rivers and greater community awareness.
