what3words Delivers 3 Word Addresses to Esri ArcGIS Platform

what3words is an addressing and location-reference system that divides the world into 57 trillion 3 m x 3 m squares and assigns each a unique three-word address. It was created to solve the widespread problem of poor, irregular or missing street addressing and the difficulty non-GIS users have with long coordinates or alphanumeric codes, which lead to errors and inefficiency across navigation, logistics, utilities and public services.

what3words was integrated into Esri’s ArcGIS platform as a configurable locator that works online or offline, supports single and batch conversions, and can be deployed organization-wide. The integration makes location sharing faster and less ambiguous, has been positively received in beta trials, and helps improve data accuracy and customer experience across sectors like logistics, municipal services, and field data collection.
