UK courier reduces missed deliveries by 83% with what3words

what3words is a simple, precise addressing system that assigns every 3x3m square on the planet a unique three-word address. Direct Today, a UK subcontractor serving mainly rural areas, faced costly “last mile” challenges—postcodes often sit miles from actual properties, drivers waste time calling for directions, and the last mile can account for up to 28% of delivery costs.

Since adopting what3words in February 2016, dispatchers attach a 3-word address to parcels and drivers use the Navmii app to navigate to the exact 3x3m location. The change cut failed first-attempt deliveries by 83%, reduced daily undelivered parcels from around 30 to 4–5, and enabled Direct Today to build a customer 3-word database for even faster, more efficient future deliveries.
