A what3words Case Study
Tuvalu Post, the national postal operator for the Pacific island nation of Tuvalu (population ~11,000 across nine islands), faced severe addressing gaps: fewer than 10 streets in the capital are named and only about 100 homes and 10 businesses have postal addresses, forcing most residents to travel to access postal services or have no access at all.
To fix this, Tuvalu Post has adopted what3words as the national addressing standard, encouraging people to claim their unique 3-word address via the website or app and add it to existing address details. The change enables home deliveries for the first time, improves consistency and efficiency in parcel handling, supports inbound international parcels and e-commerce growth, and creates new revenue opportunities for Tuvalu Post.
