Take a trip to the Olympics with what3words and RioGo

what3words and RioGo teamed up to solve a clear problem: with an extra 500,000 visitors arriving for the 2016 Rio Olympics, tourists and participants risked getting lost in a crowded, complex city. RioGo — a customised Olympic planning app from SkedGo built on the TripGo platform — needed a simple, reliable way to help users find exact locations and navigate multimodal journeys around Rio de Janeiro.

The solution was integrating what3words’ addressing system into RioGo, giving every 3x3m square a unique three-word address that works offline and plugs into RioGo’s route planning and travel alerts. The result was more precise, stress-free navigation for visitors, easier discovery of attractions like Samba Central, and recognition for RioGo (winner of the “Experience the Olympics” category); the broader TripGo ecosystem reaches over 800,000 users and what3words is also used in apps such as PocketEarth and Navmii.
