Simpler, faster, better 3 word addresses take on Dubai’s street addresses in Aramex delivery challenge

Aramex, a global logistics company operating in 69 countries and 567 cities, faced costly delays in Dubai because many street addresses are confusing or nonexistent—drivers routinely phoned customers for directions and wasted time searching for delivery points. To solve this, Aramex trialed what3words, a system that assigns every 3 m x 3 m square a unique three‑word address.

Integrating what3words into Aramex’s systems let drivers find locations reliably and plan optimized routes: in a Dubai test, deliveries using 3‑word addresses took 4h28m versus 7h39m (42% faster), reduced distance from 255 km to 198 km (22% less), and cut phone calls from 25 to zero. The result was faster, cheaper deliveries, less training for new drivers, lower fuel use, and a simpler customer experience across Aramex’s network.
