MapAble - Customer Case Study

MapAble is a web-based GIS platform that brings spatial analysis and map visualization to non-GIS professionals, offering universal web access, team collaboration and a packaged set of ~300 South African national datasets (infrastructure, settlements, facilities and environment). The company’s challenge was to make precise location sharing and navigation as simple and accessible as the rest of the system so that non-technical users could find and communicate places without specialist skills or ambiguity.

MapAble solved this by integrating what3words — a global addressing system that divides the world into 3m x 3m squares and assigns each a memorable three-word address. The result is faster, clearer location communication and easier map use for non-technical users, improving accuracy, reducing ambiguity and expanding the platform’s accessibility and collaborative potential.
