A what3words Case Study
Kiribati Post, the national postal service for the 115,000 people spread across 33 islands and atolls, faced costly and unreliable deliveries because most homes lack formal addresses—only about 15% can receive mail at home and much mail goes undelivered or sits in PO boxes across 27 agencies. The country’s dispersed geography and poor addressing system made finding recipients difficult and limited access to services.
To solve this, Kiribati Post adopted what3words to assign simple, memorable 3 m x 3 m addresses for every home and business, enabling accurate doorstep delivery. The change paves the way for reliable home deliveries, greater participation in international e‑commerce, and new business opportunities for the postal service and the people of Kiribati.
