A what3words Case Study
Aligned Assets, a UK-based leader in address management and gazetteer software for local authorities, emergency services and utilities, has tackled the long-standing problem of communicating precise locations. Traditional references like latitude/longitude are error-prone and hard to use, while street addressing can be ambiguous or unavailable, leading to lengthy, unclear descriptions for critical sites.
Aligned Assets integrated what3words — a global grid that assigns every 3m x 3m square a unique three-word identifier — into its Gazetteer products, enabling automatic generation, storage, searching and updating of 3-word addresses across Symphony, iManage, BlueLight, Street Naming & Numbering, SinglePoint and iMatch. The result is faster, more accurate location capture and retrieval (to 3m), reduced ambiguity for emergency responders and utilities, and improved asset logging, service delivery and planning for local authorities.
