A what3words Case Study
what3words partnered with Earth-i to solve a common problem at large events like the Farnborough International Airshow: how to communicate precise on-site locations where there are no street addresses and spoken GPS coordinates are error-prone. Relying on vague, descriptive directions made logistics, security and medical response slow and unreliable across the airfield and exhibition site.
Earth-i captured high-resolution aerial imagery, produced a 3 cm planform map and delivered tiled web-ready images in three days; what3words overlaid its global 3 m x 3 m grid so every square had a unique 3-word address. The combined solution lets teams call exact locations (for example, ///pink.spider.guards) for deliveries, crowd management and emergency response, improving navigation, coordination and reaction times across the event.
