Southern Wine and Spirits of California, the state’s largest wine and spirits distributor, faced an outgrown, outdated Union City facility and needed a long‑term solution to support growth and improve fulfillment. To modernize its operations, Southern engaged Westfalia Tech. Inc. to design and deliver a state‑of‑the‑art automated warehouse using Westfalia high‑density AS/RS, Storage/Retrieval Machines with Satellite® technology and Savanna.NET® warehouse execution software.

Westfalia Tech. Inc. built a 334,000 sq. ft., 55‑ft facility that stores 24,750 pallets up to ten deep, supports 12,000 SKUs and 1.8 million cases, with S/RMs processing >80 pallets/hour and conveyors handling up to 300 pallets/hour and 18,000 cases/hour. The automation produced measurable results: significantly improved space utilization so Southern can grow without expanding, faster and more accurate picking and receiving, reduced put‑away time and product damage, and enhanced inventory visibility and on‑time deliveries.
