Westfalia AS/RS installed at Hershey Creamery Company

Hershey Creamery faced rising demand for direct-store deliveries and larger warehouse orders and needed a more selective, higher‑throughput distribution facility. To solve this, Hershey Creamery engaged Westfalia Tech. Inc. to design and install a high‑density automated storage/retrieval system (AS/RS) paired with Westfalia’s Savanna.NET warehouse management software and Satellite rack entry vehicles to handle both pallet and case picking in a deep‑freeze environment.

Westfalia Tech. Inc. delivered a scalable AS/RS with 10,000 pallet positions, 8‑level racking, 5‑ and 7‑deep lanes, two S/RMs, pick tunnels and Savanna.NET WMS; the system was later expanded (aisle lengths +50% and a 3rd pick level) to boost capacity. The solution maintained FIFO, improved selectivity and throughput, and delivered measurable gains for Hershey Creamery — including a 40% increase in storage density, a 30% reduction in energy costs, and faster, more accurately tracked order fulfillment.
