Sigma Alimentos - Customer Case Study

Sigma Alimentos, a division of Grupo Alfa and one of Mexico’s largest refrigerated distributors, needed to automate a new Monterrey distribution center to support full-pallet storage, case picking, buffering and inventory management while working within an already-built steel frame. To meet those requirements Sigma partnered with Westfalia Tech. Inc., deploying Westfalia’s Automated Storage & Retrieval System (AS/RS) and Savanna.NET® Warehouse Management System.

Westfalia Tech. Inc. implemented a high-density AS/RS with two SRMs, Satellite® load-handling, conveyors and Savanna.NET WMS integrated to Sigma’s SAP host, providing 3,349 pallet positions with 4–5 deep lanes and handling full 40" x 48" pallets. The solution delivered a 40% increase in storage density, roughly 30% reduction in energy costs, improved order-picking throughput, tighter inventory control and enhanced employee safety—meeting Sigma Alimentos’ current needs and leaving room for growth.
