Quad/Graphics Partners with Westfalia Technologies for Lomira Storage Project

Quad/Graphics, the world’s largest privately held commercial printer, needed a high-density storage solution at its Lomira, WI facility to store three different pallet styles (plastic USPS, plastic 9-block and a wooden internal pallet) without using slave pallets and to speed production throughput. Quad/Graphics contracted Westfalia Tech. Inc. to design, construct and install a high-density automated storage and retrieval (AS/RS) system.

Westfalia Tech. Inc. delivered a 42,005‑position AS/RS measuring 776' x 92' x 107' with four storage‑retrieval machines, two SRMs per aisle (halving crane travel), 1,600 linear feet of conveyors and a 12‑level rack. The system’s center‑stationed in‑feed/out‑feed conveyors and high-density design enable extremely high throughput, streamline work‑in‑process access and provide measurable capacity and speed improvements that Quad/Graphics expects to leverage for years to come.
