Organic Valley - Customer Case Study

Organic Valley, America’s largest cooperative of organic farmers, faced rapid growth and an inefficient distribution footprint spread across five rented refrigerated warehouses. To centralize cold storage, increase capacity, reduce environmental impact and lower operating costs, Organic Valley engaged Westfalia Tech. Inc. to provide a high-density Automated Storage & Retrieval System (AS/RS) and the Savanna.NET warehouse management system (WMS).

Westfalia Tech. Inc. implemented a 66,000 sq. ft. rack-supported automated facility featuring an 80 ft, 11-level AS/RS (12,000 pallet positions) with three Storage/Retrieval Machines (two cooler, one freezer), integrated picking lanes, conveyors and Savanna.NET WMS controlling both automated and conventional areas. The installation consolidated multiple sites, increased storage density by 40%, reduced energy costs by 40% (30% attributed to AS/RS efficiencies plus 10% from green features), improved inventory tracking and food-safety handling, boosted employee safety and productivity, and left 32 acres available for future expansion.
