Maple Vail - Customer Case Study

Maple Vail, a 100-year-old complete book manufacturer with multiple production and distribution facilities, needed to automate palletizing of work-in-process books while integrating with its multi-stage production lines. Maple Vail turned to Westfalia Tech. Inc. to find a solution that would maintain throughput and quality across varying book sizes and stack patterns.

Westfalia Tech. Inc. implemented a Fuji EC-201 robotic palletizer with a custom end-effector, pneumatically controlled pressure plate, and slip-sheet capability to pick 2–3 stacks at a time and place stable layers on pallets. The system doubles per-person throughput to 16 stacks per minute, handles varied stack heights and sizes, and is projected to save Maple Vail over $120,000 a year in labor costs.
