Preview of the Sazerac Company, Inc. Case Study

AS/RS technology allows Sazerac to service the customer and adapt quickly to business needs

Sazerac Company, Inc., one of the largest family-owned distillers in the United States, was facing rapid growth in demand for Kentucky bourbon and other spirits and needed to increase warehousing efficiency, improve inventory tracking, reduce space usage and remain competitive. To meet these challenges, Sazerac engaged Westfalia Tech. Inc. to deploy AS/RS (automated storage/retrieval system) technology and Savanna.NET® Warehouse Execution System (WES) software across its Buffalo Trace and Glenmore distilleries.

Westfalia Tech. Inc. implemented high-density, multi-deep AS/RS systems with Savanna.NET WES — delivering 10,621 pallet positions at Buffalo Trace (three S/R machines, 18 staging lanes) and 36,748 pallet positions at Glenmore (four tandem S/R machines, automated layer picking, 52 staging lanes), plus additional pick and conventional rack capacity. The installation increased storage density, reduced pallet breakage via a 3-rail support system, improved inventory accuracy and throughput, lowered operating energy and physical‑inventory costs, and provided built‑in expansion capacity to ship more cases per hour and free manufacturing space for growth.
