The large Arizona-based health plan company, serving Medicaid, Commercial, and Medicare Advantage members, faced the challenge of high-cost healthcare utilization driven by medication nonadherence among its high-risk members. To address this, they partnered with Wellth to implement its behavioral economics-based digital health app and incentive program aimed at improving care plan adherence.
Wellth’s solution used daily app reminders, photo check-ins, and a loss aversion financial incentive model to encourage members to take their medications. The results were significant, with the program achieving an 88% average adherence rate and a 33% increase in medication adherence (PDC). This led to a 44% reduction in inpatient utilization and a 40% reduction in ED visits, decreasing costs by an average of $125 per member per month for the health plan.
