A Weka Case Study
Preymaker is a cloud-native visual effects (VFX) studio working with a globally distributed team across multiple continents and time zones. As its artists handled highly variable workloads across tools like Houdini, Unreal, Nuke, Maya, Flame, and Adobe Creative Cloud, the studio needed a performant cloud-based environment that would let Mac, Windows, and Linux users share the same dataset in a single global namespace while keeping storage costs predictable. WEKA’s WekaFS™ Limitless Data Platform on AWS addressed this challenge.
WEKA implemented NeuralMesh/WekaFS on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to enable seamless data sharing without copying data between services, while delivering the high throughput needed for high-frame-rate, high-bit-depth workflows. The result was massive gains in global artist productivity, simplified data management, lower and more predictable cloud storage spending, and automatic scaling with namespace expansion to Amazon S3. Preymaker’s head of technology reported that performance was exceptional and that WEKA made the studio’s operations far easier to manage.
