KX Improved Performance for KDB+ HDB in AWS

Kx Systems, a division of FD, needed a way to scale storage on demand and handle burst compute and analytics workloads in the cloud without adding more hardware to its data center. The company wanted to migrate its kdb+ historical database and related workloads to AWS EC2 while preserving the high performance, storage, and memory access expected from kdb+.

Weka addressed this with WekaIO Matrix on AWS, giving Kx Systems a kdb+-compatible storage platform for cloud-based HDB and analytics processing. The solution delivered strong read performance and low metadata latency, with streaming reads reaching 4.6 GB/sec across eight nodes and S3-tier reads scaling from 555 MB/sec on one node to 1,596 MB/sec on eight nodes. Weka also helped reduce hosting costs, enabled flexible performance scaling, and supported warm backups between on-premises and EC2 or across AWS instances and regions.
