Baylor College of Medicine’s Aiden Lab Chooses WEKA to Accelerate Genomics Research

Baylor College of Medicine’s Aiden Lab, part of the Center for Genome Architecture in Houston, needed a faster, more efficient storage solution to support its genomics research and GPU cluster workloads. The lab was looking for a high-performance file system that could keep up with demanding I/O requirements and work well in a cloud computing environment, so it chose Weka’s Weka File System (WekaFS).

Weka implemented WekaFS to accelerate Aiden Lab’s 3D-DNA genome assembly pipeline and improve storage efficiency. The result was a 3x performance improvement compared with alternatives, helping Baylor College of Medicine use its cloud infrastructure more effectively and enabling researchers to analyze results faster and more productively.
