Case Study: Fletcher Building eliminates unconscious bias and streamlines graduate recruitment with Weirdly

A Weirdly Case Study

Preview of the Fletcher Building Case Study

Fletcher Building - Customer Case Study

Fletcher Building, a major New Zealand employer, faced the annual challenge of recruiting graduates from thin resumes while minimizing unconscious bias. To create a fun, branded entry point that assessed personality, cultural fit and potential — rather than relying on names or demographic cues — Fletcher Building used Weirdly’s custom-skinned quiz and platform as the first application touchpoint.

Weirdly implemented a blinded screening workflow: a custom quiz with identifying data obscured, a recruiter dashboard for initial filtering, and a video integration that anonymised submissions. From 600+ applications Weirdly helped the team long-list 100 for psychometric testing (Winsborough), then narrow to a top-50 and ultimately top-40 after blind video review. Over 57% of candidates who ranked in the top psychometric tier also scored in Weirdly’s top 50, enabling Weirdly to serve as an accurate, cost-saving first screen and uncover strong candidates who might otherwise have been missed.
