Getty Images partnered with Weidenhammer to unlock a new revenue opportunity by monetizing its vast archive of images. The challenge was to create an art-on-demand printing service capable of scaling to an enormous 100 million distinct products, a volume of data that presented significant performance hurdles for a standard e-commerce system.
To overcome the extreme scale, Weidenhammer redesigned the presentation layer for product discovery and pushed the data to Elastic Search, a flat file alternative to MySQL. This solution replaced the lagging, relational database structure and resulted in a remarkably performant and accessible e-commerce product that successfully met Getty's ambitious goals.
