Train ticket website sales increase by more than £1m

redspottedhanky.com, part of the ATOS platform, is an impartial online UK train ticket retailer that needed to improve conversion through a multi-step booking funnel and reduce distractions on its homepage search widget. To boost visitors reaching the fares page, confirmation page and average order value, the company engaged Webtrends Optimize to diagnose and address funnel drop-off.

Webtrends Optimize used A/B and multivariate testing and targeting—running 12 tests over 31 days—to simplify the search widget (removing a secondary CTA and refining date selection), cutting clicks to a six-click purchase. The winning variation delivered a 5.76% lift in booking confirmations, an expected >£1 million uplift in annual sales, about 12,500 additional quarterly visitors to the Journey Details page (≈7,500 extra confirmations), a 57.46% increase in railcard entries and a 10.24% rise in open-return bookings.
