Magistrates' Court of Victoria redevelops website with Webplace for 250,000 annual cases

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria, a major court handling over 250,000 cases annually, faced the challenge of making its website accessible to vulnerable and disadvantaged users. This need was driven by recommendations from the Access to Justice Review and the Royal Commission into Family Violence, which identified that the existing site used complex legal language, was difficult to navigate, and was not mobile-friendly, creating a major impediment to justice. Webplace was engaged to provide a solution.

Webplace delivered an end-to-end service to completely overhaul the website, redeveloping it using the Drupal 8 CMS. Their comprehensive process included stakeholder interviews, information architecture development, UX design, wireframing, and user testing. The solution resulted in a new website that is WCAG 2.0 AA compliant and launched successfully in December 2018, directly addressing the need for plain-language information presented in an accessible way.
