Driving Engagement Without Forgetting Health Costs

Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center was facing medical claims rising well above the national average and wanted to improve employee well‑being to support the staff who provide critical pediatric care. The hospital partnered with WebMD Health Services to implement MyHealthPath, a whole‑person employee well‑being program addressing physical, emotional, work and financial health.

WebMD Health Services helped evolve the program using analytics to target interventions (including tying extra PTO to engagement) and to monitor turnover and cost trends. The initiative achieved strong adoption—89% of eligible employees registered in 2017–2018—participants’ health costs rose far less than non‑participants (12% vs. 42% over four years), and the program contributed to slowed medical claims growth, higher engagement and reduced turnover among participants.
