Dr. Wald at USAA Knows Well-Being Can Drive Business Results

United Services Automobile Association faced the need for a more engaging, mobile-first employee well-being experience after outgrowing its original provider. In 2015 the organization partnered with WebMD Health Services to launch the Healthy Points Program — a gamified, social platform designed to address physical, emotional and financial well‑being and deliver a member-quality digital experience for employees.

WebMD Health Services implemented team challenges, leaderboards, incentives and strong leadership engagement to drive participation and culture change. The program achieved roughly 75% participation, was associated with an 80% reduction in workers’ compensation and long‑term disability, helped keep employee medical cost growth near 2% CAGR, and correlated increased participation with lower turnover, unplanned absence and time away from work.
