A Webfleet Case Study
West Dunbartonshire Council, which operates a 380‑vehicle fleet worth about £8m and faces annual running costs over £2M, needed to cut rising fuel bills and meet a statutory CO2 reduction commitment. The council sought better control of vehicle use, improved driver behaviour and reduced administration and fraud risk, and after a competitive tender selected Webfleet (using LINK GPS tracking and related services) to help address these challenges.
In March 2010 Webfleet installed LINK GPS tracking units in 260 vehicles and has rolled out its ecoPLUS reporting to give live fuel and carbon data. The Webfleet solution drove measurable changes in driver behaviour (less harsh braking, lower speeds and reduced idling), yielding a projected fuel saving of around 70,000 litres (Apr 2010–Mar 2011 vs prior year), a reported annual fuel cost reduction of over £100,000, lower servicing/maintenance costs and a reduction in CO2 emissions.
