Shuttl, one of India’s largest bus-aggregating platforms (about 450 AC buses and $23M in funding), needed a seamless referral program to fuel growth. The team’s main challenges were identifying users likely to refer, delivering contextual follow-ups, and measuring the right metrics across participation, impressions, responses and conversions.
Using WebEngage’s Journey Designer, Shuttl implemented two interlinked journeys: Journey 1 filtered genuine referrers by offering gift rides and triggered three API calls to create users, log events and credit wallets; Journey 2 sent drip messages to the referred friend and checked for app install/new-user status before exiting them. The program generated 11.2% of Shuttl’s referrals over a two-month period and accounted for 3.6% of new-user subscriptions in that span.
