Kultahippu Hotels, a hotel in Ivalo, Finland, faced a significant downturn and staff layoffs during the COVID-19 pandemic due to a dramatic drop in guests. The hotel also grappled with outdated technology for managing bookings and check-ins. During this slow period, the CEO began building relationships with Asian travel agencies and also approached vendor Planet to find a solution to improve the guest journey.
Planet implemented its HotSoft PMS, which included the Online Front Desk for self-service check-in and integrated payment and booking solutions. This provided a holistic view of the business and streamlined operations. As a result, Kultahippu Hotels achieved 100% occupancy for the winter season, expecting 150-170 tourist groups, and has already sold 50% of its rooms for the following year. The hotel expanded, and full-time employment grew from pandemic layoffs to a team of 14, which increases to 20 in the winter.
