Saint Mary’s College, a private Catholic liberal arts college, needed to update an aging wealth screening that had not been actively managed. Director of Research Joni Warner faced decisions about goals, useful data and how to apply screening results to support major-gift efforts and broader fundraising priorities.

Working with WealthEngine, Warner implemented a three-step plan—interview peers who had screened recently, set specific goals (remove unqualified prospects, better qualify cultivated prospects, update the database, and identify new prospects), and define desired data and outcomes. The screening identified 124 new prospects, which were mapped by region for gift officers, supplemented by ability ratings for existing portfolios, and produced new planned-giving leads; the tool streamlined development work, saved the college money, and became a regular part of staff workflow.
